FALL 2019 PREVIEW: Anticipated Releases Tag

I recently saw Rebecca of bookishlyrebecca do the Anticipated Releases Tag. If you think I love talking about the books I’ve read, I may be even more in love with talking about all the books that are getting ready to grace our bookshelves! Fall 2019 is especially going to be a fantastic new release season. No worries, my library card and bookstore gift cards are ready. This tag was created by Ellyn of Allonsythornraxx. I’ve tried to base some of my answers on titles that I have not received early for review.

Most Anticipated Release of the Year

This will likely come as no surprise, being that this one as been on my Goodreads TBR since November 2017 and I’ve probably talked about it here on the blog since. I am beyond excited for Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hick’s Pumpkinheads! I’m always on the hunt for a great graphic novel and I’ve been really craving a contemporary-esque novel from Rainbow Rowell.

Book You’re Not Anticipating

Many of you may throw all of your booknerd screams at me, but I don’t think I’ll be picking up Victoria Schwab’s Tunnel of Bones. While City of Bones was a fun and adventurous middle grade, I wasn’t a super fan and don’t feel the need necessarily to read the sequel.

Most Underhyped Anticipated Release

Since I’m primarily part of the YA book blogging community, I just might not have seen a lot of hype for Elizabeth Ames’ The Other’s Gold, which falls into the adult book and literary fiction categories. I reviewed this August 2019 release back in June and I truly think a lot of YA fans looking for more intricate writing will enjoy this one. The Other’s Gold follows four best friends through their college years and early adulthood.

Book You’ve Been Waiting on Forever

I don’t think February 2019 counts as forever, but I am so NOT ready for the final book in Neal Shusterman’s Arc of a Scythe series, The Toll.

Non Fall 2019 release-wise, I have a feeling I’ll be waiting on this one for a little forever longer because Sarah J. Maas’ The World of Throne of Glass still does not have an official release date. I’m so excited that this one isn’t just going to be a ToG encyclopedia, since we’ll be revisiting this world ten years after Kingdom of Ash’s ending. I’m hoping this one will come out in 2020, since House of Earth & Blood/Crescent City will be out in March and ACOTAR #4 will *fingers crossed* will be sticking to its 2020 release as well.

Book You’re Anticipating Out Your Comfort Zone

I’m really looking forward to Renee Ahdieh’s The Beautiful, even though I haven’t read too many historical fantasies and books about vampires.

The Book Addiction Tag

Sorry to reveal the answer to this tag’s title already, but not only am I addicted to books, but I’m also addicted to discussing my relationship with books! I originally saw the Book Addiction Tag done by Kate of Reading Through Infinity, but I’ve seen it pass through my blogging circles a few times this month. Since much of this tag is about our time and dedication to reading, I realized that I may do some sort of ‘tracking my reading’ (aka seeing how much time I spend reading a day) post in the near future. As you’ll be able to tell, many of my answers and this possible future blog post topic depends on the time of the year and whether if I am in school or not at that moment in time.

What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

At most, I can go from 1-2 days without starting a new book. The two day mark usually occurs during the school year. During the summer, I usually start a new book after immediately finishing one or a few hours later. If I finish a book at night, I will more than likely have started a new within the next 24 hours.

How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

One! Even if I’m reading more than two books at a time, I usually just carry one book with me at a time. I’ve definitely gotten better about not bringing a book with me in certain social situations over the years (aka when hanging out with non-bookish friends and family). I almost always have a book on me though in these situations:

running errands where I know I’ll have time to sit or have to wait
traveling by train (I really can’t read in the car without getting a headache)
breaks at work
if I have time in between classes or meetings that doesn’t have to be dedicated to homework or other priorities

Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

I don’t keep every book I buy or receive for review, once I’ve finished reading it of course. If I didn’t really enjoy or love a book or have some other sentimental attachment to it, I don’t see the point in keeping it. I pass on these types of books to friends/family, trade through #arcs or booksfortrade on Twitter, or donate them.

HAPEE BELATED BIRTHDAE: Harry Potter Tag

Who says that you can’t celebrate Harry Potter’s birthdy a week later? The lovely Emily of A Literary Life nominated me to do the Harry Potter Tag, and it took a flick of my wand to write this tag immediately. And that’s a lot coming from this terrible book tag do-er (many apologies to Rebecca of Bookishly Rebecca for nominating me for all the tags and awards, but I have a surprise for her at the end of this post). Without further ado, let’s get back to Hogwarts.

Which House are you in?

I’m a Hufflepuff! I am here to admit that it took everything in me (and 3 Pottermore retakes) a few years ago to accept that this book nerd is not a Ravenclaw.

What is your Patronus?

I still need that mug that says “My Patronus is Lesli Knope” in my life, but by Pottermore standards, it’s a Falcon.

What is your wand?

Cedar wood with a dragon heartstring core, 10 ¼ in and unbending flexibility

What would your Boggart be?

Bugs. Lots of bugs.

What position would you play in Quidditch?

Chaser, since it’s the most similar to a forward position in field hockey.

Would you be Pure Blood, Half Blood or Muggle Born?

Maybe Half Blood because there’s got to be some other reason why my mom is so good at everything!

What job would you like to have after graduating from Hogwarts?

I think I would love to own a sweet shop, like Honeydukes. No worries, there wouldn’t be any Fred and George Weasley-concocted treats.

Which of the Deathly Hollows would you choose?

Invisibility Cloak. Hiding out in a bookstore after closing sounds pretty easy with this one.

Favorite Book?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This definitely isn’t the happiest of the books, but I love so much about this book (expect maybe what happens in Dumbledore’s tower).

Least Favorite Book?

Harry Potter and the Chamber Secrets. I’ve actually grown to love this one more with my rereads and movie marathons, but I think I thought of this more as a “filler” book when I read it the first two times.

Favorite Film?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I love seeing the Triwizard Tourtament come to life, and this movie is sentimental for me because it’s the only one I saw in the theater.

Least favorite film?

Harry Potter annnndddddd I really don’t know?? Maybe Deathly Hollows: Part 1 because we had to go in knowing this really wasn’t the end?

Favorite Character?

Neville! And of course this doesn’t have anything to do with Matthew Lewis playing him on-screen… I also love Luna! I am a hardcore Neville and Luna shipper.

Least favorite character?

Lucius Malfoy

Favorite Hogwarts Professor?

McGonagall

Do you have any unpopular opinions about the series?

I don’t think I have any too pressing of unpopular opinions, but I do think Hermione and Ron were meant to be together. I think Harry and Hermione would’ve been too much of an expected set up. Additionally, as much fun as it is for J.K. Rowling to keep us in the Wizarding World on Twitter, I sort’ve dislike how she keeps bringing up ways she would’ve changed the series, like not having Ron and Hermione be end game, and even sharing that Ron should’ve died.

Reputation Book Tag

BIG REPUTATION, BIG REPUATION AHHHHHHH

Taylor Swift’s reputation quickly became one of my favorite albums of 2017 and my Taylor_Swift_-_Reputation love for the album has carried into 2018. It’s one of the few albums that I can listen from start to finish without skipping any songs, not to mention the fact that I’m constantly singing ‘End Game’ around my house (and now on my blog). So when I saw the Reputation Book Tag floating around Booktube, I knew I had to do the tag as well. I’ll also be giving a short review of each song from reputation before giving my bookish answers.

1.Ready for It: I really didn’t listen to ‘Ready for It’ when the song was first released, but I instantly became obsessed when its music video was released.

A 2018 release you are READY FOR

Save the Date by Morgan Matson. While there were so many amazing releases in 2017, I really missed having a new Morgan Matson book come out. I’m really excited about Save the Date because it centers on a WEDDING. For someone who has never been to a wedding, let alone someone who rarely thinks about her one day/maybe one, I love books and TV shows about them.

2.End Game: YES ED SHEERAN COLLAB YES YES YES

Characters that either SHOULD have been end game

Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood. I’m not the biggest fan of pairing off characters, but I think the two would have worked out well together!

3.I Did Something Bad: One of my favorite songs from reputation, I’m just obsessed with the beat and the lyrics (short example of how horrible I am with music terminology)

A character decision that was terrible, but you loved reading anyway

Okay, so I’m definitely the type of reader when a character makes a bad decision, I CRINGE THROUGH THE PAGES FOR THEM

4.Don’t Blame Me: I think ‘Don’t Blame Me’ really fits the vibe of the album, and this one is my sister’s current favorite

A book or series you are shamelessly addicted to

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. I recently explained this series to my sister and when I was talking about how the pants fit all 4 girls, I felt how ridiculous the description was. However, this series (and movies) will always be among my all-time favorites and I still think there a great way to branch into YA.

5.Delicate: I’m listening to ‘Delicate’ as I write this sentence, and I just love the beat/rhythm (again no idea how to describe this), it makes me dance in my seat!

A book that has a bad reputation, but that you enjoyed

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart. Genuine Fraud was like nothing I’ve read before and I just really enjoy the psychological thriller side of E. Lockhart books. However, a lot of readers thought that that the book was just a current retelling/copy of an older novel that Genuine Fraud was based on.

6.Look What You Made Me Do: I was really confused by this song when it first came out (everyone talks about how 1989 was different from ‘old’ Taylor, but I think ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ was her new start) , but I grew to love it with the music video.

Just one character is impossible, but let’s go with one I feel like I haven’t mentioned on the blog: Etienne St.Clair from Anna and the French Kiss. Thinking about him makes my heart swoon and reminds me that it’s time for a Anna reread!

11.Dancing With Our Hands Tied: Again, LOVE LOVE LOVE

15.New Years Day: I’ve been in love with this song since Taylor’s performance of it on SNL. If she does an extended edition of reputation, I hope she includes an acoustic version of ‘New Years Day’

Wonder Woman Book Tag

I saw Wonder Woman in theatres back in June and I’m absolutely obsessed with anything Wonder Woman (who isn’t?) ever since. I’m so excited to see Justice League when it comes out later this year, but I’m even more excited for Leigh Bardugo’s Wonder Woman: Warbringer, the first book in the DC Icons series, to come out on August 29^th. In anticipation for Wonder Woman: Warbringer, today I’ll be doing the Wonder Woman Book tag. This tag was created by Amber of Amber’s Books and More over on Booktube.

Wonder Woman: Your favorite badass female book character– Celaena Sardothein from Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series. When I think of badass female characters, Caleana automatically comes to my mind.

Fantasy Island: A Book Setting you want to escape to– Warcross by Marie Lu. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Warcross back in June and I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL EVERYONE CAN PICK UP THIS BOOK AND WE CAN ALL FANGIRL OVER IT! I just want to jump into Warcross and play this virtual reality game!

London: A Hyped book that let you down – The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

Steve Trevor: A Book that has a beautiful Cover and a Great Story (i.e. great personality)– Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. I wrote a four paragraph review about all of my post-Salt to the Sea feelings on Goodreads right after reading it last year, and I still think back on this beautiful and heart-breaking story focused on lost history.

Lasso of Truth: A Book you hated—Nemesis by Brendan Reich. Unfortunately, Nemesis did not live up to the hype for me, and the plot was very different than I expected to be. While I appreciate its Lord of the Flies vibes, this YA novel felt more middle grade to me and I just couldn’t connect to the story and characters.

Wonder Woman’s Shield: A book so sad you need a shield– The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I still cry every reread, don’t worry.

Ares: A Villain that is scary, but you can’t seem to hate– Holland from the V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic trilogy. Holland is one of those villains that you can’t do anything but feel sorry for. He was always in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Amazons: A book that you wish had more/better LTBT+ representation– Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (if you’ve read it, you know what I’m talking about)

25 Bookish Facts About Me

I absolutely love watching “25 Bookish Facts About Me” videos on Booktube, so I thought I’d share some facts about my own reading life!

In kindergarten, my teacher read Junie B. Jones Is a Graduation Girl to my class, which inspired my love for Junie B and reading.
The first ARC (Advanced Reader’s Copy) I ever received was David Baldacci’s The Keeper.
My favorite Hogwarts professor is Professor Lupin, who I still have a major crush on. Maybe it’s the werewolf thing?
I am a major The Hunger Games fan. I have the first movie’s poster framed in my bedroom at home and I will forever be #teamgale
The first young-adult series I ever read was The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares.
The authors I’ve met include Marie Lu, Rainbow Rowell, Sarah J. Maas, Jacqueline Woodson, Jenny Han, E.Lockhart, and Adam Silvera.
A librarian once accused of destroying the front cover of a Pretty Little Liars’ book. Yes, I read the PLL series, those books are addicting! I think my tears proved that I wasn’t the culprit, and I was terrified of going to the library without my mom for a while.
My favorite book that I’ve read in school is The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.
Besides Junie B.Jones, I read Nancy Drew, the Babysitters’ Club, and the Main Street series growing up.
I attended Book Con in 2015 and 2017, and the convention has made up two of the best weekends of MY LIFE. I have recap posts for my Saturday and Sunday at Book Con 2017.
I’m a Hufflepuff.

While I find hardcovers more aesthetically pleasing, I love reading paperbacks more.

If I were a Hogwarts house combination, I would be a Ravenpuff.
I read 72 books in 2015 and 70 in 2016.
I bought These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner primarily for its gorgeous cover
My favorite places to read include my bed, and the beach and my backyard in the summer
I wasn’t allowed to read the Twilight series when the books and movies came out because my parents thought I was too young. I read Twilight a few years later for book club and didn’t really understand what the hype was about.
One of my favorite bookish tote bags is from Swoon Reads, and it says, “Shelfies Over Selfies”.
More often than not, I make myself read a book before seeing its film adaption
Since one of my siblings isn’t a big reader, whenever she actually reads a book and loves it, I must read it!
The only Harry Potter movie I saw in the movie theater was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It’s one of the reasons why I consider Goblet of Fire one of my favorite books in the series.

The Burn, Rewrite, Reread Tag

Lately, I’ve been in the mood to write some more book tags, so you may sense my excitement when Danielle from Life of a Literary Nerd tagged me to do the Burn, Rewrite, Reread Tag!

How to:

Randomly choose three read books (most people who have done the tag randomize their “read” shelf on Goodreads—go to sort > Random)
Choose one book to kill, one book to rewrite, and one book to reread

Round 1:

Burn: Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. I had to read this for English class in high school and while I wrote a paper and gave a presentation all about love and symbolism, it was one of my least favorite high schools reads.

Rewrite: Vicious by V.E. Schwab – IT’S FATE I TELL YOU. Frankly, the only reason I would rewrite this book would be to make it even LONGER so I could have more time with Victor and Mitch and Dol and just everyone.

Reread: The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson. The 13 Little Blue Envelopes series was one of the first young-adult series that I ever read and loved, so I hold both books close to my heart. In The Last Little Blue Envelope, Ginny continues her journey around Europe inspired by letters from her aunt.

Round 2:

Burn: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. One of my more unpopular opinions, The Raven Boys was one of my least favorite reads of 2016. I had trouble following the story, as I often found the plot slow-moving and confusing and I couldn’t connect with any of the characters.

Rewrite: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I love all of the books in The Hunger Games trilogy, but Catching Fire was my least favorite read (even though it was my favorite movie out of the four). While I enjoyed the premise, I felt like it took forever to get back into the Games.

Reread: Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour was my first Morgan Matson book and like many, I absolutely loved it. Another perfect summer contemporary read!

Round 3:

Burn: It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. While I enjoyed It Ends With Us, I’ve become disenchanted with a lot of Colleen Hoover’s work.

Rewrite: Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken. If I rewrote Wayfarer, I would add in more chapters from Etta’s perspective and some chapters told from the side characters, such as Sophia and Lin. I would possibly take out Nicholas’s chapters, as I really wasn’t interested in his perspective.

Reread: The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #5) by Rick Riordan. I really enjoyed reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series back in 2015 and I wouldn’t mind any of the books, like The Last Olympian, before diving into The Trials of Apollo (At this moment in time, I don’t have much interest in picking up The Heroes of Olympus series).

Round 4:

Burn: Thirty Sunsets by Christine Hurley Deriso. I don’t really remember reading this book too much, and I think it was a pretty plain summer contemporary.

Rewrite: Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. Again, another book that I would rewrite only to make LONGER so I could have more time with this fascinating story

Reread: A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass. A Mango-Shaped Space was part of required summer reading in middle school, and I just love this book so much (it’s probably one of my most reread novels).

E-reader or Physical Book? Physical book. I just can’t concentrate while reading on an e-reader, I like the feeling of holding a physical book so much more.

Fictional Charcter You Probably Would Have Dated in High School: Neville Longbottom. I think Neville is such a sweetheart, and I love the person he becomes in the last 3 books. Also, the Deathly Hallows movie Neville makes me swoon .

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance: Six of Crows b y Leigh Bardugo. Don’t be scared by the fact that you haven’t read the Grisha trilogy beforehand, like I was. You can totally read this series without ever picking up Shadow and Bone .

Hidden Gem Book: Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher. I wish more of her books were available in the US.

Important Moment in your Reading Life: Discovering Booktube. I found Booktube when I was a junior in high school and I had just made reading one of my top priorities again. Booktube has inspired me to pick up so many books and to start Fangirl Fury.
