April 2023 Wrap Up

April was a really good reading month! I had off for spring break, and we were super lucky with the weather. It truly felt like summer, between the sunshine and eighty degree temperature nearly every day.I have a super busy season coming up in May and June between work, family & friend commitments, and concerts (yes, I am hunting for Taylor swift tickets, specifically for her Philadelphia and/or MetLife shows!!!).

April was a bit of a breather from romance, and I really leaned heavy on contemporary adult fiction. I read a total of 13 books. My absolute, currently favorite book of 2023 was known other than Emily Henry’s Happy Place. Never fear, my review is coming here on Wednesday.

My favorite reads of the month were Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson, The Hopefuls by Jennifer Close, and basically anything by Curtis Sittenfeld, but specifically Romantic Comedy, American Wife, and Eligible.

I read 2 YA graphic novels, Sunshine by Jarret J. Krosoczka (LOVE!) and Class Act by Jerry Craft (a new student fave author). I also feel like Elyssa Friedland’s The Most Likely Club doesn’t get enough hype – this was the female friendship story I was craving.

On the other hand, the misses were Georgie, All Along, Before We Were Strangers (maybe blame it on my non romance cravings, but I didn’t understand the hype behind these two books), and Stone Cold Fox (this thriller has been getting a ton of hype, but I felt like I was missing so much information from its (unreliable) narrator).

Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson | 4.5/5 Stars

Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld | 4/5

Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn | 3/5

Sunshine by Jarrett J. Krosoczka | 4/5

American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld | 5/5

The Most Likely Club by Elyssa Friedland | 4/5

Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino | 3/5

Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld | 4/5

Class Act (New Kid #2) by Jerry Craft | 4/5

Stone Cold Fox by Rachel Koller Croft | 3.5

Varina Palladino’s Jersey Italian Love Story by Terri-Lynne DeFino | 4/5

The Hopefuls  by Jennifer Close | 4.5/5

Happy Place by Emily Henry | 5/5

At the time of writing this post, I’m a little behind on watching the latest episodes of Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel. I really don’t feel like I have anything new to add to the Ted Lasso conversation that hasn’t already been said -this show really is one of the best on TV. I know that season 5 of The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel has been getting mixed reviews, but I’m honestly really liking the flash forwards so far. Yes, maybe they don’t pain Midge in the best light, but I like the contrast between what we assume is a successful career and her struggling with her new job in real time.

I feel like I’m on my own golden era of TV between these shows, along with what’s coming soon. A few shows on my to-watch list in the upcoming weeks & months include XO, Kitty, Selling Sunset, Never Have I Ever, and The Summer I Turned Pretty S2 at some point this summer!
