Another month, another round of books I’ve recently added to my TBR. I definitely shouldn’t be adding books to my TBR (FYI please always keep adding books), in that I have piles of library books, spring 2022 ARCs, and the beasts that are Sarah J. Maas’ two HUGE Crescent City books sitting on my bedside table. 

Seoulmates (Seoul #2) by Jen Frederick – Jen Frederick’s Heart & Seoul has gotten mixed reviews among readers, but I personally really enjoyed this contemporary/contemporary romance (this book definitely leans more so on the women’s fiction side than contemporary romance) last summer. The first book follows a young woman who goes to Korea to find her birth mother. The first book ends with a semi plot twist/cliffhanger, so I’m looking forward to picking up book #2, Seoulmates. 

Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng – Celeste Ng is just one of those authors where you don’t need to know much about the book before adding it to your TBR. My ‘claim to fame’ is that I read a review copy of  Little Fires Everywhere before it became a bestseller and then was adapted for Hulu, but the point is I’ve been waiting for a new book of hers since then! The book comes out on October 4th. 

Class Act (New Kid #2) by Jerry Craft – A few of my students are reading Jerry Craft’s graphic novel, New Kid, and I read it alongside them & really enjoyed it! The series follows student who come from diverse backgrounds & their experiences at an elite private school. 

Made in Manhattan by Lauren Layne – I read Lauren Layne’s NYC set To Sir, With Love last summer & I’ve been meaning to pick up more of her books since. Made in Manhattan is a My Fair Lady modern retelling, following a Manhattan socialite who is forced to teach the grandson of one of her grandmother’s friend a thing or two about keeping up with NYC society. 

Dream On by Angie Hockman – Angie Hockman’s debut, Shipped, was such a gem in 2021 and it made me want more of her books ASAP. Her July 5th release is another contemporary romance, following a law student, Cass, who wakes up after experiencing a car crash and is flooded with memories of her boyfriend, Devin. The problem? Devin doesn’t exist…until a year later when Cass meets him for the first time in a flower shop. 

The Redhead of Auschwitz by Nechama Birnbaum – My students are currently studying the Holocaust & genocide, & I’ve been wanting to read more nonfiction about the Holocaust myself. One of my students was recently reading The Redhead of Auschwitz, the biography of Auschwitz survivor, Rosie Greenstein. The book is written by her granddaughter.
