I have loved my start to the summer, in thanks to beach days, pool days, and all the books I’ve read so far. June was definitely my best reading month so far, in terms of both quality and quantity. I think I’ve set a personal record when it comes to annual reading & summer reading in 2021, having read 74 books so far in 2021 and 19 books (18 books + 1 novella) in June – I’m hoping to get to a total of 20 books in June/75 books for the year so far by the end of today. I have reviews or mini reviews either published or coming for nearly all of the books below, so I’ll just be sharing my star ratings for them then transitioning into what I watched and wrote this month.

In the Heights (HBO Max) –Everyone knows that I am a huge Hamilton fan, so I was really excited to check out the movie adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s musical, In the Heights. I liked this one a lot, but I kind’ve wish I was more familiar with the story/music before having watched it. I did rewatch it and admit that I picked up on so many more details during the second watch.
Workin’ Moms S5(Netflix) – Workin’ Moms is one of my favorite shows on Netflix, and after a ‘meh’ fourth season last summer, I’m so happy to say that I LOVED season 5 (so much so that I binged it in less than 2 days). It was the perfect blend of comedy/ridiculousness and character growth.
Kevin Can F*** Himself (AMC) – My sister and I are huge Schitt’s Creek fans, so we were both really looking forward to checking out Annie Murphy’s new comedy show, Kevin Can F*** Himself. Based on the trailer, I was hesitant to go into this one because I’m not a fan of traditional sitcom comedies, but this show is SO worth the watch as it transitions between sitcom/multi-camera set-up and a more serious single-camera set-up. The show is definitely on the darker side, but I am absolutely hooked.
A Quiet Place: Part II – After at least over a year and half, I finally went to the movie theaters with my sister to see A Quiet Place: Part II. You may know that I’m not the biggest fan of scary/horror movies, but I’ve really enjoyed this series and I though the second movie was a solid installment.
Hacks (HBO Max) – After binge-watching Workin’ Moms, I needed another show to turn to – after seeing rave reviews, I started Hacks, a comedy following a famous comedian whose career needs a refresh and a young comedy writer who is sent to work with her after a tweet gone wrong. I still have about three more episodes to watch, but this show took me by complete surprise and I’ve really enjoyed it.
