Sorry to reveal the answer to this tag’s title already, but not only am I addicted to books, but I’m also addicted to discussing my relationship with books! I originally saw the Book Addiction Tag done by Kate of Reading Through Infinity, but I’ve seen it pass through my blogging circles a few times this month. Since much of this tag is about our time and dedication to reading, I realized that I may do some sort of ‘tracking my reading’ (aka seeing how much time I spend reading a day) post in the near future. As you’ll be able to tell, many of my answers and this possible future blog post topic depends on the time of the year and whether if I am in school or not at that moment in time.
What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?
At most, I can go from 1-2 days without starting a new book. The two day mark usually occurs during the school year. During the summer, I usually start a new book after immediately finishing one or a few hours later. If I finish a book at night, I will more than likely have started a new within the next 24 hours.
How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?
One! Even if I’m reading more than two books at a time, I usually just carry one book with me at a time. I’ve definitely gotten better about not bringing a book with me in certain social situations over the years (aka when hanging out with non-bookish friends and family). I almost always have a book on me though in these situations:
- running errands where I know I’ll have time to sit or have to wait
- traveling by train (I really can’t read in the car without getting a headache)
- breaks at work
- if I have time in between classes or meetings that doesn’t have to be dedicated to homework or other priorities
Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?
I don’t keep every book I buy or receive for review, once I’ve finished reading it of course. If I didn’t really enjoy or love a book or have some other sentimental attachment to it, I don’t see the point in keeping it. I pass on these types of books to friends/family, trade through #arcs or booksfortrade on Twitter, or donate them.
How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?
20-30 minutes. Since I am selective about the books I do buy, I usually plan ahead and go to the bookstore knowing that said book is there. However, like most of us, I do enjoy looking through the bookstore for some TBR inspiration.
How much time per day do you actually spend reading?
As expected, how much time I dedicate to reading depends on the day, from having school to work to socializing, etc. No matter what my day may look like, I try toreadat least one hour per day.
At the time of this post, since it’s summer and I tend to have more free time during this season, I have been reading at least 2-4 hours a day. On a day where I’m at the beach or pool for most of the day and don’t have any other obligations, I can read anywhere from 4-6 hours.
Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?
‘Picking up a book’ is always on my to-do list. I try to make time for reading in the morning if possible, but I always try to start a book or continue reading about a half hour to an hour before going to bed.
How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?
This is an estimate between my bookshelves and the stacks of books scattered around my bedroom, but I have to be anywhere between 250-300 physical copies!
Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?
At least once, even with the non-bookish people in my life. My closest friends and family know how much books are part of my life, so it’s no surprise that I reference what I’ve been reading or a book in our conversations. I’m fortunate enough where a few of my best friends are also book people, so books are almost always somehow part of our conversations.
What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?
Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. This is likely the answer for every Throne of Glass fan now because of this series’ 980 page conclusion. I was recently cleaning my bookshelves and picked KoA up, and I forgot how heavy it is! I’m always having to change my reading position, but I was constantly moving while reading KoA to find the perfect way to balance it without straining my fingers.
Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds?
Using Kingdom of Ash as another answer, but I feel like there was so much ‘drama’ over getting the Barnes and Noble exclusive edition for me. In short, I preordered KoA back in June and then two weeks after it came out, I still hadn’t received it. I called B&N’s customer service only to find out that their warehouse had run out of copies. I still can’t get over this one, since I preordered the book almost four months in advance. Luckily, my local B&N saved me by still having a few copies. The whole experience overall has made me hesitant to pre-order books from them again.
A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?
The most recent book I struggled to finish was Christine Riccio’s Again, but Better. I wanted to enjoy this book so much so I wanted to have a full opportunity to like it and decided not to DNF. Unfortunately though, I think I disliked it more and more as I read on.
What are 3 of your main book goals for 2019?
- Reread Marie Lu’s Legend, Prodigy and Champion in time for Rebel’s October 1st release
- Buy at least one of the Wayward Son exclusive editions. I think I’m just going to go with the Barnes and Noble exclusive, but I am tempted to preorder the Waterstones edition with the rose edges. I will admit that what is preventing me from doing so is that I’d rather read the book first before buying multiple editions and as much as I do love Carry On, it isn’t my all-time favorite Rainbow Rowell book.
- My main book goal of 2019 is to read at least 100 books. I’m currently at 80 books, so I’m not worried at all about hitting 100. While I read 113 books in 2018, this was the first year that I challenged myself to read 100. I haven’t been stressed out by this personal challenge because I have been reading so much lately, but I know I won’t be reading as much when school starts in the fall.
Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?
I have not YET had this opportunity, but I’ve recommended a few books to friends that they ended up loving! My best bookish friend recently read When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon based on my rec and she loved it so much! I’m so excited for her to read There’s Something About Sweetie ASAP!
Describe what books mean to you in five words.
Books are my forever home.
What book did you have the hardest time finding? Have you done the Book Addiction Tag? Share in the comments!
Ohhh I love your last answer! And I looooved the Legend’s trilogy, but I didn’t know about the Rebel release? Does it follow the story from where it ended in Champion?

Thank you! I believe it takes place ten years after Champion & apparently you don’t need to have read the trilogy in order to read Rebel!

I also love the Waterstones exclusive edition of Carry On, but I heard they are sold out? Even if they weren’t, I doubt I could get one in the US… I also usually plan ahead when I go to the bookstore. I know exactly what I want. Sometimes I browse the displays a bit, but most of the time it’s in and out.

Agreed–I usually start new books right away! It feels so strange to not be in the middle of reading something!
