This fangirl truly cannot get over ALL the amazing contemporary books set to release in 2019. Many of my favorite authors and contemporary queens are coming out with new books, so you better believe that I’m already trying to figure out where to put another bookshelf in my bedroom.

I will just be focusing on the 19 contemporary books I can’t wait for- and don’t worry, there’s even more contemporary books I’ll scream about this year. Like always, I’ll be sharing my most anticipated books by season as well, like Winter 2019. Next week I’ll be sharing my most anticipated ‘non-contemporary’ books of 2019—because again, my bookshelves will be crying (of happiness) over the new books that will soon grace them.

The Beauty of the Moment by Tanaz Bhathena (February 26) – I was super impressed with Tanaz Bhathena’s A Girl Like That, so I can’t wait to see what her sophomore novel has in store.

Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith (March 5) – Jennifer E. Smith has become one of my go-to YA contemporary authors. This road trip-inspired story following two strangers with a mutual attraction for one another sounds right up my alley.

Small Town Hearts by Lillie Vale (March 19) – I love books with characters that have just graduated high school, so this summer contemporary (!!!) following Babe’s summer in her sleepy beach town (!!!) before everyone goes away to college sounds like another perfect read.

Night Music by Jenn Marie Thorne (March 19) – Everyone knows that I love summer contemporaries, and Night Music seems like it will be no exception, following two teen musicians spending their summer in New York City.

Dig by A.S. King (March 26) – A.S. King is a much-loved author in the YA community, and I’m super intrigued by her 2019 release about five teens in one very complicated extended family.

The Dating Game by Kiley Roache (April 2) – Give me all the college YA, like Kiley Roache’s The Dating Game. Brb while I go invent an app in my dorm room.

The Girl He Used to Know by Tracy Garvis Graces (April 2) – The Girl He Used to Know‘s protagonist is an English major and a librarian, which makes this English major very excited. The book follows college sweethearts Annika and John and what happens when fate brings them back together ten years later.

Since We Last Spoke by Brenda Rufener (April 2)- Since reading Starry Eyes, I’ve been more interested in the star-crossed lovers trope. Since We Last Spoke has been described as a heartbreaking read, but I’m interested in its family focus.

Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett  (April 16)- A book following two teens who work in a hotel that has a mysterious author as a guest? Sign me up NOW for this 2019 release by one of my favorite contemporary authors, Jenn Bennett.

If I’m Being Honest by  Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka (April 23) – If there’s one thing that this duo’s Always never Yours taught me, it’s that I am a fan of Shakespeare-inspired YA.

Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo (May 7) – Another favorite contemporary author of mine, I’d frankly read Maurene Goo’s grocery list. Somewhere Only We Know (also the title of my favorite songs!) sounds so freaking adorable and cute. The book is about what happens when sparks fly between a tabloid reporter and K-Pop star.

There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon (May 14)–  While There’s Something About Sweetie isn’t about Dimple and Rishi, I’m so excited to be back in their world (and see their cameos).

Again, but Better by Christine Riccio (May 21) – Many of you know that I love college YA, and Booktuber Christine Riccio’s debut novel sounds like it’s going to be a super relatable and authentic read. Again, but Better follows college student Shane’s decision to study abroad in London, in hopes of changing up her college life.

I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn (May 28) – A book about fashion and family, not to mention taking place in Japan, sounds like the perfect combination for this fangirl.

The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen (June 4) – Sarah Dessen has always been a staple in my YA reading life, and The Rest of the Story will be her first book published by HarperCollins. While it does take place in the summer, The Rest of the Story takes place in a town that Sarah hasn’t written about before and has a big focus on family.

Maybe This Time by Kasie West (July 9) – I still haven’t read a Kasie West book, however, I think Maybe This Time will be the one to change things, following a girl who works in a florist shop!!

The Map from Here to There (The Start of Me & You #2) by Emery Lord (TBD) – I’ve been waiting for this sequel since I met Max Watson in The Start of Me & You. I couldn’t be more excited for a new Emery Lord book this year- I can’t believe I haven’t read one of her books since summer 2017!

We are the Wildcats by Siobhan Vivian (TBD) – My favorite YA contemporary authors are totally owning the 2019 release game, like Siobhan Vivian. As a high school field hockey player myself, I cannot wait to dive into this book about a high school field hockey’s team crazy night after the new varsity roster is announced.

Misaligned by Gloria Chao (TBD) – After really enjoying Gloria Chao’s American Panda, I couldn’t be more excited for her sophomore novel. Misaligned is about a teen outcast who finds herself caught in a whirlwind romance and family secrets when another Taiwanese family moves to her town.
