While you most likely know Fangirl Fury as a fangirl, I am also  a beach girl. I’ve been very fortunate enough to grow up near the shore and basically have the beach as my backyard- I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how people spend their summer not near the ocean (or that many of my hometown friends don’t like the beach..).

As you can probably guess, the beach is one of my favorite places to read during the summer. On a beach day, I often alternate between reading and going into the water- no worries, I never do both at the same time. Today I’m going to be walking you through my somewhat summer, somewhat beach TBR. Basically, these are books that I’d like to read during beach trips, days by the pool, and in between this season. I’m also going to talk about the books that I have such fond memories of reading in these same spots last summer.

My 2017 Beach TBR Included:

Made You Up by Francesca Zappia- After reading and loving Eliza and Her Monsters, I immediately needed more Francesca Zappia, which led me to Made You Up. Read while tanning on the beach, Made You Up sheds light on mental health, and not knowing what to expect kept me glued to the sand!

The Start of Me & You by Emery Lord- If I had to name my summer after an Emery Lord book, it’d be The Start of Me & My Pool Raft. I read many books floating around the pool (no books are harmed in doing so), including The Start of Me & You. Emery Lord is one of my go-to contemporary authors, and any of her books make for the perfect summer read.

How to Be Bad by Lauren Myracle, Sarah Mlynowski & E.Lockhart- How to Be Bad was such a throwback to my early days as a YA reader. I used to eat up Lauren Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski’s books, and I still can’t get enough of E. Lockhart’s work today. How to Be Bad is a perfectly fun and light-hearted read, as three friends go on a spur of the moment road trip.

The Smell of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock– The Smell of Other People’s Houses is definitely not your average beach read, being that it takes place in 1970s Alaska. But it’ll most definitely keep you glued to your beach chair, especially since this mesmerizing read is just under 230 pages!

Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley – Words in Deep Blue was the perfect read for me, not to mention the perfect compliment to my blue beach blanket. How could I not love a book that takes place in a bookshop during the summer!?!

My 2018 Beach TBR Includes:

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian- I’m a firm believer that the best beach reads are the ones that take place at the beach! Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian’s Burn for Burn trilogy takes place on Jar Island, home to the beach and the supernatural!? I plan on binge-reading this series sometime this summer while I also prepare for To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before to hit Netflix.

Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian- Ice cream is the perfect summer treat, so how could I not read a book about girls running an ice cream stand?? I’ve seen so many positive reviews for Siobhan Vivian’s latest release, Stay Sweet, and you better believe I’ll have ice cream in hand while reading.

Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oekle-One of my favorite things to do after a day at the beach is to come home and chill in the air conditioning with a good movie or TV show. Give me a book about a girl who participates in her college’s student-run reality show and you’ll find me with Lianne Oekle’s Nice Try, Jane Sinner inside and outside!

The Summer of Us by Cecilia Vinesse – This read is in the title, friends. Cecilia Vinesse’s The Summer of Us follows 5 friends’ summer around Europe before they head off to college in the fall. While I physically may be lying on the beach, I’ll be fulfilling some of my wanderlust alongside these characters.

Love & War by Melissa de la Cruz- Melissa de le Cruz’s sequel to Alex and Eliza will be the perfect patriotic read for Fourth of July. Alex and Eliza was a poolside read of mine last summer, so it’ll be fun to carry on with the married couple in the same setting this summer.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman- Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine may not sound like the biggest beach read, but it’s another that I must read because of all the hype! And it’s going to be a movie adapted by Reese Witherspoon?!! It’s time to grab my towel and this read ASAP.
